You Wanna Be Startin’ Somethin’

You Wanna Be Startin’ Somethin’

MJ moved all the time. He was a perfect mover really. He always said that you learn best from watching the masters when they work. Watch and learn.

Unifying Theory of Health, Number 1, Move A lot.

What does that mean? How much is enough exercise? What does a rest day mean for the body? What should your rest day involve? For us, it depends on the individual. What is it you are trying to achieve?  What injuries do you have, if you have one at all? Have you got any type of medical condition? Are you pregnant? All these questions and more need to be answered before you really give a complete answer.

At The Sports And Spinal Group, we are focussed on finding the health, not disease in people. Thus, we encourage our clients to have a movement assessment regularly to ensure there is no underlying vulnerability to stepping into a high intensity program. Pain is often the last thing to show itself and the first thing to resolve, however, no pain does not mean we are functionally clear. Maintaining movement quality is essential to lifelong, active lifestyles, and that is what we care about most.

However, daily movement, whether it be weightlifting, gymnastics, cardio-respiratory endurance (walk, swim, bike, sprint, jog, row), body weight activity or a specific sport, movement will encourage movement. The benefits of exercise are well documented in both physical and psychosocial journals. The improvements to blood markers, mood, energy levels (when exercise is given in the right dose), physical appearance and so many more have been proven.

I’m sure when you pick up the Sunday Herald and flip into the Body and Soul section this Sunday, a new research article will be there telling us that 42.795 minutes might be a tad too much and cause fatigue compared to 30 minutes a day. Guess what? It doesn’t matter. You know your body better than anybody else! If you need a day away from the gym, go hop into the pool, go for a walk down the beach, get on the bike and go for a ride, get on the foam roller and improve your soft tissue quality.

Be Startin’ Somethin’, MJ always was.
